Speech Title: Kansei Engineering – The Emotional Foresight

Abstract – Evolution in product design shows a trend where inclusion of consumer’s implicit needs and demand to the technical aspect of product design helps determine product success in the market. Explicit needs can be accessed and described in less sophisticated way. However, the implicit needs such as emotional experience are more complex and harder to depict. Kansei Engineering methodology has been successful in handling the implicit needs and demands of consumers. It has been implemented in diverse area of application including in heavy duty machine, interior design, and computing. The talk will cover example of KE implementation, which provide useful guides to beginners in the industry and academia to the implementation of KE in diverse field including HCI, Interaction Design and other tangible and intangible product design.
